(No) Sex and the City

Father's Day Weekend. A family friend said she missed the kids and volunteered to keep them overnight. Since our only requirement for babysitters is that they have a pulse (just kidding - no really), we quickly agreed. I pricelined an awesome deal at a swanky hotel in the city, made reservations at a restaurant in Chinatown that was getting great reviews, and prepared to enjoy an evening of uninterrupted adult quality time. That is, until our friend's mom ended up in the hospital and she had to cancel. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were left with two choices: scrap our plans (and the non-refundable hotel room) or bring the kids along. We chose to make lemonade and traded our king suite for something a little more family friendly.

To our surprise, our weekend in the city was an absolute blast! I've been in the Philly area for fifteen years, but never played tourist until now. We went on a duck tour, which I highly recommend. It's a "land and sea" tour that includes most of the historic sights and also goes out into the Delaware River (which is even dirtier up close).

The line outside Jim's Steaks went around the corner and down the street. Did you know a Philly cheesesteak contains between 800-1200 calories?

Up close, the water is a greenish color, mixed with trash.

The quackers were a big hit with the kids. Not so much with the parents.

After a wonderful Father's Day brunch at Farmacia, we spent some time at the Headhouse Farmers' Market, one of the oldest open markets in the country (according to Dancing Fred).

My babies

We took a carriage ride through Old City. Between the squirming one-year-old, and whining four-year-old, it was not as fun as we expected.

Someone got bored after five minutes.

My first time seeing the Liberty Bell
All in all, we had a wonderful time. And in case you're wondering, our friend's mom is doing fine.
